Driving fair climate action in Brazilian cities
The project aims to explore ways to advance the planning and implementation of climate action in Brazil in a manner that is mindful of the local context, based on a recognition of the inseparable link between the climate and urban agendas and constructive dialogue with stakeholders.
We consider municipal governments and local stakeholders to be essential agents for the implementation of mitigation and adaptation actions, and therefore, we seek to work on the conceptualization, chaining, and detailing of strategies and instruments that can stimulate climate action in Brazilian cities, guided by climate justice and the imperatives of reducing inequalities.
In this sense, consolidating a subnational strategy to promote just climate action in Brazilian cities involves formulating the "Just Climate Action" tool with the aim of articulating guidelines for inter-federative and inter-sectoral integration of the climate agenda, focusing on the urban context, and systematizing parameters for climate action that more significantly include the subnational sphere and the context of cities, including strategic sectors and objectives.
