Coverages Revealed
The “Revealed Roofs” project was ZeroCem’s first work to address the issue of urban building roofs and the multipurpose potential of these spaces.
We started with a geospatial mapping that revealed the significant extension of the roof area in the city of São Paulo (more than 400 km²) and its varied typology, both in terms of its physical characteristics (area, construction solution, flatness, building height), and in its relationship with its urban surroundings and landscape (location, visibility, impact of climate events, among other factors).
Through case studies, we visit the spaces, talk to people who use or are responsible for the roofs and discuss the potential for providing environmental services for each of them.
In the end, the project highlighted the socio-environmental value of the roofs, indicating how the networked articulation of these spaces can be the seed for creating a system of urban open spaces that anchor the construction of a new vision of the city and its territories.
