Climate Federalism: Brazil on the Road to COP30
In late March, ZeroCem, representatives from the three levels of government, and organizations gathered in Brasília for the 1st Resilient Green Cities 2025 Meeting to discuss strategies to address the climate crisis. Brazil reinforced its commitment to climate federalism, highlighting the importance of coordination between different levels of government for effective mitigation and adaptation actions.
With the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, social, environmental, and economic vulnerabilities have worsened. Brazilian cities, on the front lines, face the impacts of climate change, but they also hold great potential for driving a green and just transition. Integrating urban and climate policies is essential to achieving ambitious goals and ensuring a sustainable transition.
As COP30 approaches, Brazil has the opportunity to strengthen the role of municipalities in the climate agenda, setting an example of collaboration between different levels of government.
