“Neighborhoods with higher incomes have a concentration of electric car stations” – Folha de São Paulo

High-income neighborhoods have a high concentration of electric car stations, study finds

A study by ZeroCem in partnership with MADE/USP analyzed the territorial distribution of electric vehicle charging stations in Belém, Brasília, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Research shows that these points are mostly located in areas with higher income, better urban infrastructure and a predominantly white population.

The survey highlights the risks of an energy transition that prioritizes individual transportation and fails to address historical inequalities in access to mobility.

Without investments in public transport and active mobility, the expansion of electric vehicles could reinforce existing patterns of urban exclusion.
